Why I Don’t Wear Makeup

Unlike many girls, I don’t tend to wear makeup much, if at all. Sometimes that raises curiosity from people.

Today, I’m going to give you my top 5 reasons why I don’t wear (much) makeup:

1.) It’s expensive!

I realize it is meant to last for a while, but still. The price of some of those products is through the roof! But then, I suppose people who are into beauty products might say the same of my camping and camera gear… I guess we all have our priorities, don’t we?

2.) I’m a perfectionist.

I am an artsy person, so on the rare occasion that I do makeup, I enjoy working super hard to make it perfect. The downside? Skin oils, sweat, movement, and occasional itches make it super easy to mess up my look. Having awkwardly smudgy eyeliner just bugs me too much, and I’m not always in a position to fix it! Creating a fun look, snapping a photo, and then washing it all off at once is more my style.

3.) It’s not healthy for your skin.

Skin is happy when it is free! Having clean pores helps keep away zits, blackheads, and other unpleasant conditions. It also allows my face to breathe better.

4.) I need to be satisfied with who I am.

While it can be fun seeing a model-perfect version of myself from time to time, allowing that to become the norm would not be healthy. When the fun is over and the makeup comes off, it can be easy to think, “Wow, I look a bit drab.” If that’s where my mind goes after just a little while, I imagine that feeling would only grow more intense if I got used to always seeing made-up me. As it stands, I’m confident in my own skin, and I like that!

5.) I need to be a good steward of my time.

God only gives me so many hours in a day and so many days to live. My days are busy and I don’t know how many of them I’ll get- so why spend oodles of time trying to “put on a face” that will only last a matter of hours? There are so many other useful things that could be done with that time!

    This is a great thing.
I do wear make-up when I go out of the house but it is because I have unevened toned skin with blemishes from zit scars I gained in my twenties. If my skin tone were more even, I wouldn’t wear it. However, considering I barely wear make-up, I spend about $25 every three months or four months on make up. That’s it. I have a friend who has so much make up that sometimes she asks me if I need any (she really has a whole make up room). I have received eye liners from her. I really like eye liner. . .
    Anyway, very great post!!

Wow! An entire makeup room would be fun, but definitely more than I would ever use myself, too. Zit scars suck. I was hoping acne would go away in my 20’s, but so far it’s not happening.

Glad you enjoyed the post! Thanks for commenting!

Oh man, I never see your responses and back tracked to see if you ever did respond. I should click the “notify me of follow up comments by e-mail” option! gah!
My face was at its worst at 26 years of age with zits. ugh.

Ha! Yeah that is a handy option.

Oh man, that’s a bummer… I guess I better not look forward to clear skin for a few more years 😛
