There is a particular art to writing a good blog post.

Some blog posts are a complete turn-off the moment we see them. Other posts feel inviting and draw us in, leaving us with the desire for more. The big question is, how do you create welcoming reads? Well, my friend, you’re in luck!

 

Here are my top 5 tips for writing catchy blog content:

 

1.) Keep it snappy.

The modern human is a busy breed that often comes with a short attention span. Most readers will zip to the bottom of a post to estimate the time commitment. If it takes too many swipes or drags of the scroll bar to reach the bottom, people lose interest immediately. Try to keep your post length short enough that you can reach the bottom in no more than 4-6 swipes on mobile or 2-3 scrollbar drags on desktop.

 

2.) Make it visual.

According to writer Jeff Bullas, articles with images get 94% more views. I admit, haven’t personally done the research to back this statistic up. I can, however, tell you that I find myself far more drawn to blogs that contain visual content, and my friends tell me the same. Even if it is just a header image, it helps with the overall attractiveness of your post.

 

3.) Be briefs.

Briefs are short. Boxers are long. Out of the two, briefs are the ones that can fit into tight confinement. Keep your sentences and paragraphs short and to the point. In the end, you’ll have a blog post that can fit into the tight confines of anyone’s crazy life- just like briefs can fit into skinny jeans.

 

4.) Try to be conscientious of utilizing excruciatingly lengthy adjectives in an attempt to appear intellectual.

Seriously. Your teachers may applaud such language, but the people of the internet find it overwhelming. Be sure the average person can understand you.

 

5.) Use headers.

Headers or “heading text” (these large fonts that I start each section with) help break up your post. The most reader-friendly blog posts are the ones where you can get an accurate summary just by skimming the headers. Doing this allows your readers to easily tune into the portions they find the most interesting. Additionally, you can get away with writing longer posts if you use your header text well.
